Plumsted for Progress
Design, branding, social media management
Community organizing, marketing strategy, branding, web development, social media management, and more
After the social justice protests in the summer of 2020, a group of concerned members from my otherwise conservative community came together to form a new progressive organization, which would later be called Plumsted for Progress.
The organization focuses on anti-racism, LGBTQ+ advocacy, environmental issues, and mutual aid. We hosted and continue to host a number of high-profile events, including a Black Lives Matter rally with over 250 attendees, two LGBTQ+ Pride events, and a community cleanup event. We lobbied our local township committee and mayor on various issues and built a community garden as well.
I mostly volunteered marketing and communications support, such as:
Developing the official website using Google Sites
Creating the logo and visual brand guide*
Providing marketing consultation for events and recruitment initiatives
Designing promotional graphic assets
Copywriting
Writing public statements
Launching and growing the public-facing Facebook page
Building community in two private Facebook groups
Photography
Making the volunteer interest form and newsletter signup form
Additionally, I provided administrative support like organizing and leading virtual meetings, creating meeting agendas, helping to coordinate events, maintaining the Gmail account, and writing township resolution proposals. I also played a major role in developing the organization’s mission statement, strategic goals, and name.
*The logo was influenced by various civil rights movements throughout history, the color palette was inspired by iconic colors in the local community, and all fonts were designed by artists of color, women, or members of the LGBTQ+ community.
